Welcome to Beacon Hill

Noble and quaint, this charming neighborhood is filled with many historical landmarks and lit by antique lanterns

One of Boston’s most picturesque areas, Beacon Hill is full of steep streets lined with Federal-style and Victorian brick rowhouses. Lit by antique gas lanterns, this charming neighborhood is home to the gold-domed Massachusetts State House, which overlooks Boston Common.

Named after the location of a beacon that once stood atop the highest point in Central Boston to warn locals about invasions, this half-square-mile, mostly residential neighborhood is now full of elegant townhouses, trendy boutiques, and popular restaurants.

Beacon Hill’s stately streets are still paved in cobblestone while images of iconic Acorn Street grace postcards, paintings, and many social media pages — it’s considered one of the most- photographed streets in the United States.

Charles Street is synonymous with antique shopping, and history buffs revel in Beacon Hill’s architecture and layout, reflecting Colonial Boston. Home to a number of historical landmarks, including the Boston African American National Historic Site, this area has been deemed a protected historic district.

Home to many famous Americans, including Louisa May Alcott, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Daniel Webster, Robert Frost, Sylvia Plath, and Senator John Kerry, Beacon Hill remains one of Boston’s most upscale neighborhoods and its competitive real estate market proves it.
