Named after the location of a beacon that once stood atop the highest point in Central Boston to warn locals about invasions, this half-square-mile, mostly residential neighborhood is now full of elegant townhouses, trendy boutiques, and popular restaurants.
Beacon Hill’s stately streets are still paved in cobblestone while images of iconic Acorn Street grace postcards, paintings, and many social media pages — it’s considered one of the most- photographed streets in the United States.
Charles Street is synonymous with antique shopping, and history buffs revel in Beacon Hill’s architecture and layout, reflecting Colonial Boston. Home to a number of historical landmarks, including the Boston African American National Historic Site, this area has been deemed a protected historic district.
